I'm Anna, the person behind this website and Sanctuary Innerwear.
I live on an acreage in southern Ontario with my husband of 35 years. This is where I walk, ski, swim and tend my dye plants in our huge garden. Hubby and I are both busy-bodies, and tending our property is our thing.
I've been a sewist for over 50 years, having made my own wardrobe many times over, my wedding dress, and all the soft furnishings for my house. A number of years ago, I took a year off my teaching job to indulge myself. I enrolled at the Haliburton School of Art and Design in the Fibre Arts Certificate Program. After that, I began a line of clothing called iag Originals, which featured Lenzing Tencel® fabric, plant dyes and my own designs. That line has led the way to this, and the similarities are obvious.
Mission and Vision
I remain committed to using Lenzing Tencel® in all the clothes I make and wear. Through my research and reading, I am confident that this brand of eucalyptus fabric is the most ecological of any, and Lenzing AG is completely transparent in its wood sourcing and manufacturing process.
I'm also committed to using plants as dyes, including mordants and organic indigo and woad vats.
Finally, I will never outsource any of my processes (dyeing, sewing, infusing, designing) to another country. Please note that I do purchase fabric rather than making it.
I'm not an environmentalist nor do I have strong feelings about policies or politics.
I'm just happiest when I use the gifts I have been given, whether they are talents or trees. In turn, I feel it's important to return something that will benefit the giver. It's only fair.
Plant us like a tree by the water.
Send our roots toward to stream.
Bear fruit in all we do,
And make our lives evergreen.
