Dyed with fruit or seed:
Dyed with flower:
Dyed with leaf:
Indigo (indigofera) and woad (isatis) are mysterious pigments which attach themselves to fabric only when conditions are perfect. Some of my proudest moments have been seeing fabric turn blue using plants I have grown.
Dyed with root:
Madder root is one of Europe's oldest dyes, with a long history in Turkish rug making. Madder (rubia) grows well in my garden, and each year I harvest more and more of the 3year-old roots. I chop them up and simmer them slowly to release the beautiful choral colour.
Undyed and unbleached:
The Tencel eucalyptus fabric I use is beautiful without dye as well. I love the softness and drape that is most obvious in white.
